COMPLIMENTARY GARTNER® REPORT

Gartner® 2024 Strategic Roadmap for Storage

According to Gartner®, “By 2028, 100% of storage products will include cyberstorage capabilities focused on active defense, up from 10% in 2023.”

Increased data volume and adoption of AI & GenAI workloads requires a modern approach to optimization and security risk management.

“The enterprise data storage industry is reinventing itself to meet the demands of hybrid multicloud, data proliferation, cyber liabilities and consumption services. I&O leaders can leverage this research to contemporize their data storage environment to drive pivotal IT and business outcomes.”

Gartner report also recommends to “Protect against data security threat events, breaches and ransomware by employing active cyberstorage defense capabilities that can robustly detect and thwart attacks.”

Why now?

As GenAI dominates discussions in boardrooms everywhere, its impact on data security and storage has taken on an urgency unlike anything seen in recent times. An explosion of unstructured data is driving storage growth and multiplying the attack surface, attracting ambitious, sophisticated, and well-funded cybercriminals. Per Gartner, “The enterprise data storage industry is reinventing itself to meet the demands of hybrid multicloud, data proliferation, cyber liabilities and consumption services. I&O leaders can leverage this research to contemporize their data storage environment to drive pivotal IT and business outcomes.”

Gartner recommendations

  • Control and manage your data environment by classifying data based on sensitivity, compliance and regulatory demands that include the use of policy-based and artificial intelligence (AI)/machine learning (ML)-enabled capabilities.
  • Hold storage vendors contractually accountable to platform SLAs and to assist in modernizing IT infrastructure by leveraging STaaS offerings and advanced AIOps that augment subject matter expertise, administration and support
  • activities with software automation.
  • Protect against data security threat events, breaches and ransomware by employing active cyberstorage defense capabilities that can robustly detect and thwart attacks.
  • Replace separate file and object workloads and unstructured data silos by consolidating to a single storage platform that uses a common key-value storage repository with support for access over Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3), Network File System (NFS) and Server Message Block (SMB) protocols.
  • Improve the protection of critical applications by using data protection solutions that include simplified cloud-control plane management and backup as a service (BaaS) capabilities to protect SaaS, infrastructure as a service (IaaS) and platform as a service (PaaS)-based applications.
